The councilors of the Party of Socialists (PSRM) said they intend to initiate the procedure for dismissing the mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca over a series of illegalities committed by this. In a news conference on January 19, Socialists from the Chisinau Municipal Council (CMC) called on their colleagues to support this initiative, IPN reports.
Socialist Councilor Ion Ceban said sad the management at the Chisinau City Hall is defective, the decision-making process is not transparent, while the public procurement process is performed with violations. The blast that occurred near the Central Market is the result of the corrupt system that exists at the City Hall.
In these circumstances, the Socialists will initiate the procedure for dismissing the mayor by the votes of 34 councilors of the CMC or by a referendum. Ion Ceban called upon his colleagues, regardless of their political orientation, to join in and support the dismissal initiative.
The councilor noted that if there are not enough votes, the mayor can be discharged by a referendum that can be initiated by collecting 60,000 signatures in favor and they are ready to go from home to home to collect these signatures.
The last attempt by the PSRM to dismiss Dorin Chirtoaca from the post of mayor was made in 2014. Then, the Socialists created an initiative group for discharging Dorin Chirtoaca, but their actions were suspended, the Central Election Commission refusing to issue subscription lists. The decision was taken after Dorin Chirtoaca challenged the actions in the Supreme Court of Justice.
