The leader of the Party of Socialists (PSRM) Igor Dodon on July 1 submitted to the Central Election Commission (CEC) the documents required for obtaining constituency lists for collecting signatures in favor of a referendum on dismissing the mayor general of Chisinau municipality Dorin Chirtoaca, IPN reports.
“Now that the documents were filed, the CEC is to register the initiative group so that we can collect signatures. We will ask holding a referendum on November 30, 2014, simultaneously with the parliamentary elections. Under the legislation, we must collect 10% of the signatures of voters registered in Chisinau municipality. This is about 66,000 signatures,” said Igor Dodon.
He added that this task can be carried out. “Even if we were offered a short period of only 30 days (by the way, we appealed this decision to the Supreme Court of Justice and asked extending the period to 45 – 60 days), we consider we will succeed,” stated the leader of the PSRM.
Central Election Commission chairman Iurie Ciocan said that this is an ordinary petition. The CEC will examine it in a public meeting in the appropriate order.
