The National Public Health Agency was empowered with the task of managing the waiting list for treatment under the special programs by an order that was recently signed by the Ministry of Health, Labor and Special Protection.

Currently, a commission of the Agency is updating the database of patients put on the waiting list that was compiled in 2010-2013 for hip/knee/shoulder replacement surgery, surgery for cataract with crystalline implant and cardiac surgery. The list of patients put on the waiting list after 2013 is being processed, IPN reports, with reference to a press release of the Ministry.

The waiting list compiled in 2010-2013 includes 2,224 persons who need knee arthroplasty and 3,689 persons who need hip arthroplasty.

Under the regulations, the commission receives only the list of patients waiting for expensive treatment who were accepted by orthopedic traumatologists, ophthalmologists and heart surgeons of public health facilities.

Specialists of public health facilities will be responsible for the inclusion of persons on the waiting lists or their removal from the list and for the assessment of their state of health. The treatment under special programs does not envision the hastening of surgeries. Thus, the patients can benefit from treatment only based on the common waiting list.
