The public purchases of 30 companies from all over the country will be monitored within the project “Public money are my money too!” that was initiated by the Association for Efficient and Responsible Governance (AGER) and the Journalistic Investigations Center (CIJM).
The initiators of the project set the goal of monitoring the public procurement process so as to identify possible frauds in the procurement and post-procurement process. “Within the project, we will monitor the public purchases made by 30 contractors, 20 of which are from outside Chisinau, and will carry out 55 journalistic investigations into the identified irregularities. The process will involve ten local NGOs,” said AGER president Olesea Stamate.
Within the project, a group of journalists will conduct investigations into schemes of corruption, conflicts of interest, cases of traffic of influence and favoritism. “We will engage a broader team of journalists from district media outlets in the campaign. We will have an eye on the contractors and will monitor all the dubious cases related to purchases. We will supervise all the procurement stages, especially the implementation one,” said CIJM president Cornelia Cozonac.
The NGOs involved in the monitoring will also carry out advocacy campaigns to encourage the people to monitor how the purchases with public money are made.
The campaign closes on March 31, 2017.
