The state-run company “Radiocomunicatii” received a license for using radio frequencies/channels for creating and operating the first national digital television multiplex. The National Regulatory Agency for Electronic Communications and Information Technology (ANRCETI) issued the license free of charge for a period of five years, with the possibility of renewal, IPN reports.
According to a communique of the Agency, the issued license allows using by a channel of 8 MHz of the UHV band in the six allocation areas for operating the first national digital terrestrial television multiplex.
“Radiocomunicatii” must launch the first national digital television multiplex by the end of 2015. According to the program on the transition from analog terrestrial television to digital terrestrial one, in the near future the ANRCETI will issue two more licenses to the company, for using radio resources of the 470 – 694 MHz frequency band for creating and providing the second digital television network with national coverage (second national multiplex B).
The Agency’s specialists consider the implementation of digital television in Moldova will enable to more efficiently use the range of radio frequencies and to diminish the digital discrepancy in accessing audiovisual program services existing in rural and urban areas.
