The 2020 admission contest for bachelor’s and master’s degree studies at higher education establishments will take place online. Under a Government decision, the organization and holding of the main session of the admission contest at all the universities will take place simultaneously, between July 27 and August 20. The managers of the main universities of Moldova said they are ready to properly organize the process by obeying all the anti-COVID-19 measures.
Contacted by IPN for details, Grigore Belostecinic, rector of the Academy of Economic Studies (ASEM), said there are no serious problems in the conduct of online admission. The candidates should be yet psychologically prepared to trust that their file submitted online reaches the destination. When the file is presented, the candidate will be informed by a message that the file was received. The file will be examined to see if it contains all the necessary documents and if the diploma included in the file is authentic. Later the candidates will receive one more message by which they will be informed that their file was accepted.
The candidates who do not have access to the Internet can present the documents in person, but they will have to schedule an appointment. When the admission order is made and the candidates decide at what university they want to study, they will present the documents in the original. To avoid crowdedness, the documents will be accepted in a number of blocks. The candidates and the members of the admission commission will be outfitted with individual protection means, such as masks, gloves and own pencil. The rooms will be ventilated and disinfected.
The university attracts students by promoting the educational offer online, through its official website on social networking sites. This year it launches a number of master’s degree programs that will mandatorily include the IT component, such as Information Technology in Finance and Information Technology in Accounting. “We called them post-COVID programs,” said the rector.
Grigore Belostecinic noted the ASEM enables the students to get two diplomats. As part of seven programs of study, there will be offered dual diplomas issued by two universities – the ASEM and the Bucharest University of Economic Studies. Another two bachelor’s degree programs of study are implemented in concert with the “Alexandru Ion Cuza” University of Iasi, a master’s degree program with the “Lower Danube” University of Galați, while a bachelor’s degree program in accounting with the “Ștefan cel Mare” University of Suceava.
For the first time this year, the ASEM provides programs of study in hotel services, tourism and recreation whose graduates will get three diplomas. The ASEM has as partners a university of Bulgaria and a university of the UK. A Master of Business Administration program in partnership with the two universities will be launched this year. It will be taught exclusively in English. The ASEM has agreements to admit about 100 foreign students, primarily from India, who will study programs with two and three diplomas in English.
Viorel Bostan, rector of the Technical University of Moldova (UTM), has told IPN that their university started the pre-registration process. The candidates fill out the form from a distance, upload the scanned copies of the identity card and other required documents. An admission fee is paid. On July 27, the pre-registration needs to be confirmed by pressing a button. The pre-registration does not offer priority in admission to candidates.
Those who do not have Internet connection can file the documents in person after arranging an appointment beforehand.
The UTM attracts the students with its dynamism and pays increased attention to the activities of students and quality of studies. The university invests in the lecture rooms and ICT instruments. It develops partnerships with other universities of the European area. “That’s why, from our viewpoint, the UTM is a very good choice, especially because the engineering faculties have become very important for the Republic of Moldova too,” said the rector, noting not only Moldova faces a shortage of engineers, but also Romania and the EU in general. The UTM does not have new programs this year. The plan of studies is to be reviewed and modernized next year.
Contacted by IPN for a comment, Vladislav Badan, secretary of the admission commission at the University of Medicine and Pharmacy “Nicolae Testemițanu” (USMF), stated the submission of documents online is ensured through the institutional platform e-admitere.usmf.md. On August 7, there will be announced the preliminary results. The documents in the original will be presented during August 8-18 according to a set timetable and the final results will be made public on August 20.
A number of units will accept documents in the original according to a timetable that will be posted on the institution’s website. Those rooms will be regularly disinfected and the persons will have their body temperature measured.
According to Vladislav Badan, the USMF this year has two new programs of study - Public Health, for the bachelor’s cycle, and Radiological Technology. The university this year provides 440 budget-funded places. The number of contract places is set depending on the institutional capacities.
Recently, IPN reported how the admission process will take place at the State University of Moldova (USM).
