The Red Cross Society in Moldova requested the authorities to offer it a storehouse where to keep the humanitarian aid for emergencies, Info-Prim Neo reports.
In the January 31 meeting of the interdepartmental commission for humanitarian aid, the society’s president Larisa Birca said that the Red Cross had had a permanent storehouse for 10 years, but in 2008 it was transferred to the Customs Service.
“We are an organization recognized by the head of state, which cooperates with the Government and the local authorities. That’s why we should be given priority as we intervene the first in extreme cases following natural disasters. We now need a storehouse for packing 5,000 parcels for persons affected by drought and we do not have an area,” said Larisa Birca.
The Red Cross has 20 local branches in Moldova.
