Pensioners, veterans and young people protested in the square of the National Opera House in Chisinau on Saturday, November 7. The organizers of the event – representatives of the Communists Party - said the participants protest against the illegalities, social humiliation and attack on the democratic rights of the Moldovan people, Info-Prim Neo reports.
“The Liberal Party, the Liberal-Democratic Party, the Democratic Party and the Moldova Noastra Alliance, after garnering insignificant numbers of votes in the legislative elections, joined forces and created an anti-popular parliamentary majority. The irresponsible politicians created again in Moldova a ‘political joint stock company’ in order to rob the people and the country. Moldova’s and people’s resistance is tested again,” it is said in a resolution that was read during the protest by Communist MP Violeta Ivanov, the former Minister of Environment.
The leader of the PCRM and former President of Moldova Vladimir Voronin spoke about the eight years of Communist government, saying they were years of flourishing and prosperity. “During eight years, we, together with the Moldovan citizens, convinced ourselves that Moldova can become a rich and prosperous country. We laid the foundation of these plans together with you – the future of our country. We made every citizen believe in the future,” Voronin said, adding that they solved the most important problems and they regret that all their efforts are now being destroyed by the present administration.
Communist MP Iurie Muntean said that the PCRM is the only powerful political force. “We do not want that the country is governed by illiterates like Ghimpu and all the ministers who are specialists in waste disposal. Nobody can scare us. If we stick together as now, young and forceful, we will remove the band of the four musicians who learned only the march of their death,” Iurie Muntean said.
Anatol Velykin, pensioner and participant in the Second World War, said that he came to protest against the current government. “More than 1,000 pensioners, veterans and even young persons gathered here to say NO to destruction, NO to the present government and YES to early elections.”
“The day of November 7, which symbolizes the people’s fight for the rights to freedom and justice, is another reason for the protest,” said MP Violeta Ivanov. Today, it is 92 years of the October or Bolshevik Revolution (October 25 according to the Julian calendar), which overthrew the Russian Provisional Government and gave the power to the Soviets dominated by Bolsheviks. It was followed by the Russian Civil War (1917–1922) and the creation of the Soviet Union in 1922.
