The members of the initiative group seeking a referendum on Moldova’s accession to the Customs Union Russia-Belarus-Kazakhstan wrote to Moldovan President Nicolae Timofti asking him to force the relevant authorities into “respecting the will of the people who have signed the petition”, reports Info-Prim Neo. Secretary of the initiative group Ruslan Birladeanu told a press conference that Nicolae Timofti is the only person in the country who can end “all the wrongdoings” and bring Moldova back to democratic principles and the functioning of legal norms in the interest of citizens. He referred to the decision of the Central Electoral Commission to invalidate most of the lists of signatures in support of the initiative collected by the group. According to the letter addressed to the President, “through this ruling, the Central Electoral Commission has destroyed any confidence built with the society and has become a dictatorial body, which interprets the Electoral Code according to the situation and interests of the moment, contrary to the defense of citizens’ rights and expression of will”. In the same context, members of the initiative group ask the President of Moldova to issue a decree on the organization of the national referendum, publishing the text of the bill adopted by the initiative group, in order to offer citizens the constitutional possibility to express their will regarding Moldova's accession to the Economic Eurasian Community, in accordance to the treaties of forming a unique customs territory and Customs Union. The official letter to the President was written after the CEC had annulled 197,000 of the signatures collected for the organization of a referendum on the accession to the Eurasian Union.
