The Supreme Court of Justice obliged the state-run document issuing company IS “Registru” to pay damages of US$7.8 million to “Intercomsoft” Ltd. Interim Prime Minister Iurie Leanca discussed this case in a meeting with Minister of Justice Oleg Efrim, Minister of Finance Veaceslav Negruta and ICT Minister Pavel Filip on May 2, IPN reports.
According to a communiqué from the Government, those attending discussed the risks that the given court decision may have on the company’s work. Iurie Leanca said the created situation reveals a number of problems, including a system one. “We must take immediate measures to identify a solution and prevent a disruption to the process of issuing the country’s people with identification papers,” he stated.
The litigation is based on a leasing agreement on the delivery of special technology and equipment that was signed by the Ministry of Economy and the Irish company “Intercomsoft” Ltd on April 29, 1996. A number of trials took place in foreign courts in 2006-2010. Initially, the Economic Court ordered paying damages of US$71 million to the foreign company.
