The launch of the National Responsibility Pact for a European Moldova is an action aimed at supporting Moldova on the path to European integration, but it is also an electoral act, consider representatives of the parties of the government coalition.

The deputy chairman of the Democratic Party (PDM) Andrian Candu has told IPN that any action that brings Moldova closer to the EU is beneficial. “It is a symbolic action designed to show the colleagues from the European Parliament that society and the political class want to continue the course to European integration. We hope that as a result of such acts, regardless of who launches them, society and the political class will become more united,” said Adrian Candu. He added the PDM will consider signing this pact, but they see no reasons for not signing it.

MP Valeriu Saharneanu, of the group of Liberal reformers (PLR), said that such a pact is good if it concerns the European integration, but it should have been launched in the name of the whole government coalition. “In the current variant, it looks more like an electoral slogan. The PLDM should have discussed this pact within the coalition,” he added.

The deputy head of the Liberal Party Valeriu Munteanu said the launch of the pact is a standard party act. “The PLDM formulates a document, collects all the honors and then calls on the others to sign it. The people do not join a party act because every party has its own goals,” he stated.

Communist lawmaker Artur Reshetnikov said that Moldova is stricken by corruption and poverty, but instead of submitting proposals for improving the situation, the parties put forward sterile documents. “Vlad Filat suggested nothing else but a valueless paper as the European integration means creating normal, European living conditions in Moldova,” he said.

On November 18, the Liberal Democratic Party (PLDM) launched the National Responsibility Pact for a European Moldova and called upon the leaders of all the parliamentary and extra-parliamentary parties, civil society and the ordinary people of Moldova to sign it. The signatories pledge to act in concert and to ensure the cohesion of whole society, elites, political forces, civil society and the people. They also commit themselves to ensure the continuity of the European integration process, despite provocations and pressure, and to promote the European integration as a national project and to mobilize society around this project.
