The inhabitants of Tîrnova commune of Dondușeni district and Bucovăț town of Strășeni district elected their mayors in the runoff vote on June 2. The voters in Tîrnova had only one candidate on the ballot as the second candidate, of the Chance Party, was excluded from the race, IPN reports.
According to the CEC, the preliminary election results show that the Party of Socialists’ candidate Vladimir Gîsca won the mayoral election in Tîrnova with 741 votes (100%). His opponent, of the Chance Party, Ruslan Filipaș was removed from the race based on a decision by the electoral council of the local electoral district, on voter corruption grounds.
In a press release, the Chance Party described the pretext for withdrawing the candidate “a false one”. It also noted that the Dondușeni Branch of the Court of Edineț City and also the Balti Court of Appeals rejected the party’s appeals regarding false denunciations and lack of evidence in three complaints against Ruslan Filipaș. The party intends to appeal the Balti Court of Appeals’ decision to the Supreme Court of Justice.
In Bucovăț, the candidates of the Party of Action and Solidarity Nicolae Lozovan defeated the European Social Democratic Party’s candidate Irina Maximova with 282 votes or 56.51% of the ballot, according to the preliminary results.
