The waiter and barmen of a restaurant located in central Chisinau are accused of stealing money from the debit cards of customers when these gave the cards to the waiter to pay for the meal. The waiter, together with the barman, copied the data from the card without the knowledge and consent of the holder and used them later to perform different online transactions, IPN reports.
According to the Prosecutor General’s Office, a criminal case was started after the clients of a number of banks complained that the money from their cards disappeared. The customers of the restaurant were defrauded of over 38,000 lei. The prosecutors established that the suspects intended to increase the damage to 190,000 lei. The police found information systems and other items used to commit the offense at the restaurant and at the places of the suspects.
The two are accused of illegally obtaining and disclosing information that represents bank secret and of cybercrime attempt. The waiter aged 28 and the 18-year-old barmen are residents of Chisinau. They are investigated outside jail.
The prosecutors warn the people to be vigilant and to remember that any online transaction must be performed only in the presence of the card holder.
