The dome of the Chisinau Organ Hall is in a deplorable condition. The wooden construction is putrid and the water pours in when it rains. About 2 million lei is needed to restore the dome, the main consultant of the Ministry of Culture Sergiu Cherdivara told Info-Prim Neo.
The tender contest to select the contractor that will carry out the reconstruction works was to take place last October, but was held late in May. Sergiu Cherdivara said the contest was postponed for several times because no licensed contractors could be found. “Eight companies announced their intention to participate in the contest last October, but only one of them had a license and it was expired,” the consultant said.
The Organ Hall is a national monument and there will be selected only qualified specialists. Five companies took part in the tender contest held late in May. “Next week, we will submit the documents to the Procurement Agency. A contractor will be then chosen and the contract approved. The works may start in a week,” Sergiu Cherdivara said.
The works to repair the roof already began. Over 1 million lei was spent so far. A sum of 25 million lei is needed to restore the Organ Hall that is over 100 years old. It hasn’t been extensively repaired since 1976.
Sergiu Cherdivara said the internal piping system will be repaired next year. The façade and stairs are also in need of repair.
The Organ Hall was built in 1901 in a classical style with elements of Romanticism by architect Seidevan under the guidance of engineer Mihail Cekeruli-Kus and in cooperation with Alexander Bernardarzzi.
