MPs will return to work in the Parliament building beginning next year. The reconstruction works are underway and the contractor assures that the works will be completed before the deadline provided that the money are allotted in time as well, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Alexandru Gutu, manager of the contractor company, stated during a visit on the site on Friday that so far only two installments of 31 million lei each had been allotted of the total of 177 million lei. The builders work in two shifts and on Saturdays. Daily, there are 150 workers on the site. So far, the focus has been on exterior works so that when weather gets colder the work will move inside.
Gutu informed that the Parliament's main assembly hall was expanded a couple of meters and an additional floor was added. An annex to the assembly hall was built, as well as one more back entrance/exit. The lobbies will be made of marble and the assembly hall of various varieties of nut wood. The designers that will take care of the interior will arrive next week.
The Parliament building was destroyed during April 2009 protests. The repair works were stopped in 2010 because of the lack of funds and were resumed in August 2012.
