The National House of Social Insurance (CNAS) issued a communiqué, saying the information that the required length of service and the retirement age will be increased was taken by the media out of context and misinterpreted, IPN reports.
“We say it with full responsibility that the officials in their speeches said nothing about the rise in the retirement age and the length of service required before retiring in Moldova in the near future. In the international conference “Reform of pension systems: international experience”, the pension reform in Moldova was presented retrospectively, starting with 1998,” it is said in the communiqué.
The process of reforming the pension system in Moldova began in 1998, by the adoption by Parliament of a decision concerning the strategy for reforming the pension system of Moldova. The reformation measures included the modification of the retirement age (men 65 and women 60 years), increasing of the length of service (up to 35 years), annulment of the advantageous retirement conditions and establishing dependence between the size of the social insurance contributions and the size of pension.
However, by the adoption of Law No. 1,485 of 22.11.2002, the rise in the length of service and the retirement age was stopped. From July 1, 2011, the length of services required for retirement in the case of men restarted to be raised by 6 months every year.
Currently, the length of service required for an old-age pension for men is 31.5 years, while for women – 30 years. By gradually increasing it, the length of service until 2020 for men will be 35 years.
The National House of Social Insurance said no proposals are now being considered for increasing the retirement age and the length of service needed for retiring. The retirement age for men is now 62 years, while for women - 57 years
