The Anticorruption Center started criminal proceedings against former Border Police head Roman Revenco on allegations made by businessman Vladimir Volkov, who claimed that Revenco requested and received a large payoff in exchange for his go-ahead for a EU-funded project. Anticorruption Center spokesperson Victoria Timus told Info-Prim Neo that the Center is now verifying the truthfulness of Vladimir Volkov's allegations. Meanwhile, Roman Revenco was dismissed by Prime Minister Vlad Filat on July 18. Several weeks ago, Vladimir Volkov, the manager of a sub-contracting firm implementing a project financed by the European Union to improve security at the border with Romania, alleged that he had to pay off €130,000 to Roman Revenco for his permission to proceed with the project. Volkov has repeatedly claimed that Roman Revenco is the nephew of Alexei Roibu, who resigned from the post of Interior Minister last week.
