Revenues from rental real estate income tax over 33% higher

The State Tax Service said the revenues from rental real estate income tax in the first five months of this year grew by over 33% compared to the same period of 2023 to 28.5 million lei, IPN reports.

From January to May, 1,052 individuals who lease out real estate were identified. In addition, inspections were carried out at 138 individuals who lease out real estate and basic payments to the budget in the amount of 252,900 lei, late payment increases of 45,700 lei and fines of 10,800 lei were calculated.

In total, 10,427 real estate lease contracts were registered in the first five months of 2024, up 12.2% compared with the corresponding period the previous year.

Individuals who do not carry out entrepreneurial activities and who lease out real estate to other individuals, including through Booking, Airbnb and other platforms, must pay tax on rental income. The tax is 7% of the value of the contract.
