Fifty Roma students will get merit scholarships of 1,200 lei a month from the Ministry of Education and Research. The scholarships will be paid starting with January 2024. The beneficiaries were selected at a contest launched by the Agency for Interethnic Relations, IPN reports.
“Unfortunately, we have an insufficient number of young Roma who continue their studies after the ninth grade. Thus, in order to support those who want to study, we launched this program, together with the mates from Parliament,” said Minister of Education and Research Dan Perciun.
The scholarships were distributed as follows: 21 scholarships for high schools; five scholarships for secondary vocational education; 12 scholarships for post-secondary vocational education; 12 scholarships for higher educational establishments.
Students who study economy, technology, agriculture, teaching, journalism, international relations, law and others specialties applied for merit scholarships.
