Moldova and Romania on November 14 signed a series of memorandums of cooperation in the development area by which Moldova will get about €7 million in assistance. The accords were signed by State Secretary of the Romanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Bogdan Aurescu and a number of Moldovan public servants in Chisinau, IPN reports.
The first memorandum envisions a contribution of €1 million for renovating and equipping the Mother and Child Institute. The second memorandum provides for the allocation of €3 million for the renovation of 36 kindergartens. This project is a follow-up to the €20 million assistance from the Romanian state with which there were repaired 859 kindergartens. Under the third document, €1 million will be provided for renovating the Organ Hall. The fourth memorandum stipulates that 25,000 socially deprived families from Moldova will receive coal for winter to the total value of €2 million. The coal will be purchased from Romanian companies.
Bogdan Aurescu underlined the unprecedented cooperation between Moldova and Romania. “Our Prime Ministers have met six times this year. The foreign ministers have met for several times. We had this year a meeting of the intergovernmental commission for European integration and a meeting of the interparliamentary commission for European integration. The heads of the Parliament’s chambers also made visits,” he stated. He also referred to such projects as the Iasi-Ungheni gas pipeline, the SMURD pilot-project, the donation of 100 school minibuses and 50 Dacia Duster cars, the provision of cars to the border police, the return of TVR channel to Moldova, and others.
In this connection, Deputy Foreign Minister of Moldova Valeriu Chiveri said that Romania became the top commercial partner of Moldova, trade between the two countries exceeding US$1 billion in the first eight month of this year.
