“Romania has no experience in annexing other countries,” the President of Romania Traian Basescu said Thursday, when answering the question put by a Russian MP during the session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, Mediafax reported, quoted by Info-Prim Neo. Traian Basescu also said that Romania has never had claims on Moldova's territory or on the territory of another state. “The Paris Treaty of 1947 established the limits of the present frontier of Moldova, which was the frontier of the Soviet Union at that time. Romania has never disputed the present border with Moldova. Moreover, in 1991 Romania was the first country that recognized Moldova as an independent state and never hesitated to speak about the necessity of restoring this country's territorial integrity by resolving the Transnistrian dispute,” the Romanian President said. Traian Basescu also said the settlement of the Transnistrian conflict is a major responsibility of the countries and international institutions involved in the talks in the 5+2 format. “Romania requests observing Moldova's territorial integrity every time it has the opportunity,” he added. Romania does not take part in the Transnistrian conflict settlement talks in the 5+2 format.
