The consular office of Romania in Ungheni was inaugurated on May 26. It will issue small-scale traffic permits to the residences of northern Moldova.
Contacted by Info-Prim Neo, Consul Petru Litiu said that up to 70 applications will be processed daily. “We will deal only with applications for issuing small-scale traffic permits. Visa issuing and other consular services will be provided at the consulate general in Balti,” said Petru Litiu.
Foreign Minister Iurie Leanca, who took part in the inaugural ceremony together with his Romanian counterpart Teodor Baconschi, said the opening of the consular office will stimulate the people to travel to Romania, will improve crossborder cooperation and will encourage trade.
Romanian Foreign Minister Teodor Baconschi said that Romania fulfilled the promise to open a consular office in Ungheni, made to the Moldovan people, showing that it is a reliable partner. He stressed that when the dialogue between the two countries is sincere, the results are evident. “I want this institution to be not only a place where prompt consular services of a high quality are provided, but also a cultural center,” said Teodor Baconschi.
The consular office in Ungheni will work for five days a week. The applications can be submitted between 8am and 2pm, from Monday through Friday.
The Romanian consular offices in Balti and Cahul were inaugurated last July.
