Moldovan citizens will have 30 days to pass all the required exams, including the medical exams, and to obtain the necessary papers in order to legalize their stay in Russia. According to the Congress of Moldovan Diasporas, this is the first time such a deadline is introduced, IPN reports.
The new regulation obliges immigrants to register within their first 7 days in Russia. The full package of documents must be obtained within the first 30 days after entering the country. Not meeting the deadline is punishable by 10000-15000 rubles, the equivalent of 2800-4200 lei.
From January 1, visa-free immigrants in Russia will be allowed to be take employment at businesses and natural persons by getting a work patent. “Previously, migrants found it difficult to get a job because of the foreigner quota system. Now, with the patent system, the legalization procedure should be simpler. However, judging by the package of necessary papers and the deadline, immigrants may have some difficulties”, says Alexandr Kalinin, chairman of the Congress of Moldovan Diasporas.
After the New Year's Eve, a large flow of immigrants is expected at the Federal Migration Service and at the accredited medical institutions that issue the necessary medical certificates. “Most likely, people will form huge queues. Some immigrants may not meet the deadline because 30 days may not be enough to get all the necessary papers. It will be even harder for those who don't pass the language, history and basic law exams from the first attempt. Without preparation, few will be able to do it”, said Kalinin. He warns that some might choose to work illegally, but the punishments for violating immigration laws have become harsher.
The Congress of Moldovan Diasporas encourages the Moldovans who want to go to Russia to start gathering the necessary papers in advance and to prepare for the exams.
