After a number of postponements, a new hearing was scheduled to take place at the Supreme Court of Justice (SCJ) on Tuesday for the judges to consider the admissibility of the appeal filed by Ilan Shor’s lawyers against the Chisinau Court of Appeals’ decision to sentence the fugitive politician to 15 years in prison, IPN reports.
The hearing was set for 10:00 a.m. and is to take place without the participation of the parties in the case.
In June 2017, Ilan Shor was sentenced to seven and a half years in prison for causing damage to the state through deception and breach of trust. By the Chisinau Court of Appeals’ decision of April 13, 2023, Ilan Shor was given 15 years in prison. The Court also banned him from holding positions in the banking system for a period of five years and ordered the collection of 5.2 billion lei from him. The politician left the country before the sentence was pronounced and the extradition requests have so far remained unanswered.
