Sculptor Tudor Cataraga and his wife killed in road accident

Sculptor Tudor Cataraga and his wife died last night in a car accident on the Chisinau-Leuseni road, Info-Prim Neo reports. According to the police, the car in which the two were traveling was speeding. It skidded on the icy road and crashed into a truck that was spreading antiskid material on the street. As a result of the collision, the car was thrown to the opposite side of the road. The sculptor and his wife died on the spot, while a man from the truck was taken to the hospital with an arm fracture. Tudor Cataraga is the author of the model of the Freedom Monument, which was selected at a contest out of 45 models. The monument in front of the Parliament is to be unveiled on April 7, 2011, when it will be two years of the violent protests that took place in Chisinau.
