The secretary of the Supreme Council of Prosecutors was elected at a meeting on January 19. Irina Varlan, who is a prosecutor of the financial and economic investigations division of the Prosecutor General's Office, was voted in as secretary by the vote of 11 members of the Council, Info-Prim Neo reports. Irina Varlan was put froward by the president of the Supreme Council of Prosecutors Iurie Garaba. "Irina Varlan is a very responsible person, has communication abilities, is a competent prosecutor and has a good reputation,” Garaba said. The secretary of the Council is named for a four-year term. The secretary, who is not a member of the Council, ensures cooperation with the local Prosecutor's Offices and other authorities, makes public the decisions taken by the Council, edits the minutes, etc. At the same meeting, the Council elected two titular members that will act as members of the Qualification Board, which is composed of 11 members. Nine members of the Board are elected by the General Assembly of Prosecutors, while two members by the Supreme Council of Prosecutors. The two posts will be held by Mariana Grama, deputy dean of the Law Faculty of the State University of Moldova and lecturer of criminology and criminal law, and Ion Capatana, lecturer of the International Law and Foreign Economic Relations Department of the State University. The members of the Qualification Board elected by the General Assembly of Prosecutors are: Eugen Rusu, Mircea Rosioru, Isai Sarcu, Sergiu Cebotari, Viorel Tureac, Vitalie Cebotari, Viorel Morari, Sergiu Mocanu, and Pavel Cebotari. The General Assembly of Prosecutors consists of 12 members.
