The work of the Security and Intelligence Service (SIS) is a matter of the present, but it is certainly a sustainable investment in the future of the Republic of Moldova, said the institution’s director Alexandru Musteața, who transmitted a message on the occasion of the Day of Workers of State Security Bodies and the 33rd anniversary of the creation of the intelligence service of the Republic of Moldova. According to him, over the past two years the SIS has gone through a series of changes and now it can be said that it “put on new clothes” and evolved to a new stage of development, IPN reports.
“As the Service made the transition to another level and grew professionally, we have also undertaken to deal with the black spots in history, of the archives. We are currently cooperating with academia in studying past crimes because we must truly honor all those who were wronged by totalitarian regimes. Thus, we facilitated the access of society and researchers so that they know the historical truth and protect the national heritage. The Security and Intelligence Service declassified over 63,000 files from the institution’s Special State Repository in order to increase transparency and clarify essential aspects of our past,” said the SIS director.
Referring to the accomplished missions, Alexandru Musteața noted the thwarting of attempts to undermine democratic processes, hostile external actions aimed at keeping the Republic of Moldova in the sphere of influence against the country’s will. “Likewise, we continue to anticipate and counteract external interference in the electoral processes aimed at compromising the European course and at ensuring the entry into Parliament of elements that are under the influence of oligarchs, criminal groups and those representing the interests of the Russian Federation,” said the SIS director.
“In an unstable security environment, in front of us there are forces that do anything to destabilize the country and the responsibility of each of us is to respond perfectly to counter and annihilate everything that is toxic for citizens and the state. I know that we set ambitious goals, but I have full confidence in our ability to achieve them successfully,” stated Alexandru Musteața.
