Sergiu Cociorva named municipal police chief

Sergiu Cociorva was appointed as head of the Police Division of Chisinau municipality by an order of the Minister of the Interior, at the suggestion of the director of the General Police Inspectorate Ion Bodrug, Info-Prim Neo reports. Ion Bodrug said Sergiu Cociorva is a professional. “Believe me, there is now no other most suitable specialist for maintaining public order and combating crime in the municipality of Chisinau,” he stated. Former municipal police chief Silviu Musuc will serve as Sergiu Cociorva’s deputy. After the April 2009 events, Sergiu Cociorva was investigated alongside other police officers. In April 2010, Cociorva handed in his resignation. In a month, the Ministry of the Interior announced that 24 of the 25 policemen investigated as part of an internal inquiry, which was launched after pictures of the April events taken by cameras from the Government Building were made public, were reinstated in posts as their blame wasn’t proven. Sergiu Cociorva was among them.
