Several dozen people remained to protest in the Great National Assembly Square of Chisinau. According to one of the leaders of the Civic Platform “Dignity and Truth” Vasile Nastase, these are people who live in the tent town “Dignity Town”. He also has told IPN that he does not possess other information about persons who would have been arrested after the April 24 protest. Yesterday the police announced that a 26-year-old man who was earlier tried was placed under arrest for 72 hours.

Vasile Nastase said that paralyzing gas, not teargas, as it was reported, had been used during the protest. Those who threw stones at the police were instigators who infiltrated into the peaceful crowd. The protesters handed over one of these to the police. It is not yet known if this is the man who was arrested for 72 hours.

According to Vasile Nastase, the Great National Assembly Council will hold a meeting today, April 25. This will be followed by a news conference where more details about the events that happened during the protest will be provided.

Minister of the Interior Alexandru Jizdan also announced that a news conference will be given today at 11am. This will center on the incidents during the protest mounted in Chisinau on April 24 and the actions taken by the police.

An antigovernment protest organized by the Civic Platform “Dignity and Truth” took place in Chisinau on April 24. Thousands of people from different regions of Moldova demanded that the current government should resign and early parliamentary elections should be held simultaneously with the presidential elections. During the protest, the demonstrators surrounded the Government Building and then walked to Bulgara St, where there is allegedly the house of the first deputy chairman of the Democratic Party Vlad Plahotniuc, and then to the Global Business Center, where Plahotniuc allegedly has his head office.

In a press briefing after the protest, the head of the General Police Inspectorate Alexandru Panzari said that as a result of the altercations, four police officers and two civilians were taken to the hospital. A criminal case was started over public disorder on Bulgara St.
