The Buiucani District Court decided today to extend by 30 days the house arrest of businessman and Orhei Mayor Ilan Shor, to the dismay of a group of supporters rallied outside the court building. Shor's lawyers intend to appeal, arguing the prosecution failed to present new evidence to warrant the measure, IPN reports.
Prosecutor Andrei Baiesu told reporters the businessman will probably be indicted by the end of the month or early in June.
Denis Ulanov, lawyer for Shor, declared there is no evidence against his client, and moreover, he presented to the court over 17,000 signatures endorsing the mayor.
Ilan Shor has been placed under house arrest after spending more than a month in remand following his arrest on June 22. He faces grand fraud and money laundering charges in a case that involves the infamous “one billion dollars” heist.
