Signatures against dog euthanasia

The Association for the Protection of Animals without Shelter started to collect signatures in support of the stray dogs and against their euthanizing. About 15 volunteers of the Association will collect signatures in the street, at education institutions and during the concert that will be held in the Great National Assembly Square on February 24, when it is celebrated Dragobetele, the Romanian Valentine's Day, Info-Prim Neo reports. “The signatures will prove that the people are against the Chisinau administration's decision to use euthanasia in order to reduce the number of stray dogs in the capital city. In reality, the caught stray dogs are killed if they are not adopted during ten days. The municipal authorities have not yet worked out a clear strategy for solving the problem,” said Valentina Dudnic, chairwoman of the Association for the Protection of Animals “Alga”. Dudnic said they expect to collect thousands of signatures. “We will send the signatures to Mayor General Dorin Chirtoaca so that he sees he people are against dog euthanasia.” According to Dudnic, they are in favor of civilized methods like sterilization and building of shelters for the animals without owners. “Only the dogs suffering from serious and incurable diseases should be killed and only at specialized veterinary clinics. By signing this document, the residents of Chisinau show they are for reasonable and humane solutions to this problem.” Earlier, Mayor Dorin Chirtoaca said only the rabid and aggressive dogs will be euthanized. The action to collect signatures started on February 22 and will continue by February 25.
