Citizens and representatives of the business community will have easier access to public data, and the protection of personal data will be improved. The Cabinet approved a draft law on open data and reuse of information public sector, IPN reports.
The document regulates the procedure for submitting and processing requests for the reuse of public data for purposes other than those invoked in the requests. At the same time, the way to contest the refusal to communicate information is specified.
Also, according to the draft law, institutions will be obliged to modernize data collection and publication processes, reduce administrative costs and the time needed to manage requests for information.
The Ministry of Economic Development and Digitalization estimates that the law will have a major impact both on the private sector and at the social level. Open data can be used to identify new market opportunities, improve marketing strategies, develop new products, services and businesses. In addition, the use of open data will reduce companies' costs for conducting research and collecting data.
The Ministry will coordinate the open data policy-making process, and the e-Governance Agency will carry out a detailed assessment of the Government's open data website www.date.gov.md to determine its development and modernization needs.
