SIS restricts access to over 50 fake news websites

The Internet users in Moldova will not have access to 50 websites that provide fake news during the state of emergency, IPN reports, quoting the Security and Intelligence Service (SIS).

The Regulatory Agency for Electronic Communications and Information Technology (ANRCETI) will furnish all the providers of electronic communications networks and services, the competent public authorities with the list of the 50 websites and will monitor the implementation of the decision. If they do not comply, they will be held accountable in accordance with the Contravention Code.

The SIS established that following the declaring by Parliament of the state of emergency, the alarming situation concerning the COVID – 19 infection at national and foreign levels became the subject of news by which campaigns to alter the content of publicly disseminated reports are launched in order to generate panic, tension or social conflicts. These are disseminates massively through the World Wide Web by anonymous information websites.

The anonymous managers of these fake news websites are interested in projecting subversive activities to the information sphere, which, in a period of crisis, can affect the information security of Moldova, causing social hatred and mass disorder and undermining security in Moldova.
