The adults with disabilities and solitary pensioners who cannot look after themselves will be placed in families of remunerated social assistants who will be selected on a contest basis. The new service is called “Family placement for grownups”. The Government is to approve the framework regulations of this service, IPN reports.
The procedure for selecting the beneficiaries of the service will be organized by a multidisciplinary commission created by the local council of the settlement where the person lives. The family assistants will have to show that they have enough dwelling space and will have to attend a training course on how to look after persons in placement. At the beginning, the beneficiaries will be placed in the assistant’s family for a trial period of 7 to 30 days in order to determine their compatibility with the members of the family.
The costs will be covered by the local public authorities. The state assistance includes a lump-sum paid when the beneficiaries join the family, monthly allowances for looking after them and the salary of the family assistant. The costs for placing a beneficiary are assessed at 52,000 lei a year or 4,400 a month.
The social service “Family placement for grownups” is piloted in Soroca and Ungheni districts.
