Social workers urged to recall their obligations

Not all the social assistants and workers know well their tasks and not all of them carry them out appropriately, said Minister of Labor, Social Protection and Family Valentina Buliga. She urged them to recall their obligations, especially in the cold period of the year. “Many people complain that they do not receive assistance from the social workers and assistants. What we can do is to ask the district councils to penalize those who break the law, but the local authorities often do not react,” the minister stated for Info-Prim Neo. Valentina Buliga also said that the elderly people become impotent in the cold period of the year. They freeze in their own apartments because they don’t know where to seek help from. It is important that every settlement has a responsible social assistant that would pay visits to socially vulnerable persons so as to know the situation of every family apart and decide how they can be helped. In Moldova there are 2,475 social workers and 1,140 social assistants.
