Ion Ceban, the Party of Socialists’ candidate for mayor general of Chisinau municipality, promises to solve the problem of traffic jams in Chisinau if he wins the new local elections of May 20. The use of ‘mobile lanes’ is one of the solutions he intends to implement, IPN reports.

“On Alecu Russo Blvd, where there are six lanes, three in one direction and three in another direction, in the morning there should be four-five lanes to the center and as many from the center in the evening. The regulation of traffic lights during the day, depending on how crowded the streets are, is another solution,” Ion Ceban told a news conference.

According to the candidate, the streets of Chisinau were built for a lower number of vehicles, but this does not mean than there are no solutions to the traffic jams. “We suggest the following solutions: working out of a flexible timetable for schools, state and private institutions, designing of a special application that will enable drivers to learn about congested areas and streets and to avoid them, and introduction of regulations to allow vehicles whose license numbers end with even numbers to travel on particular streets and those who numbers end with odd numbers on other streets, as in some of the countries,” stated Ion Ceban.

He said he will advise public functionaries to stop using personal cars. “This will become possible if we increase the number of units of public transport: trolleybuses and buses. This way we hope the public functionaries, and not only, will go to work by modern public transport,” said the electoral contender.

Ion Ceban also said he intends to transfer the Central Bus Terminal to the outskirts of the city. He promised the roads will be repaired only at night.
