The Socialist MPs left the assembly hall in protest after Speaker of Parliament Andrian Candu refused to put to the vote the urgent examination of a bill to abrogate the Law on the Equality of Chances adopted in 2012. The bill was put forward by the Socialist parliamentary group today, April 27, IPN reports.
The Socialists’ leader Igor Dodon said that His Holiness Vladimir, the Metropolitan Bishop of Chisinau and all Moldova, who took part in the opening of today’s sitting, noted that the given law that refers also to the rights of sexual minorities impinges on Christianity and the people’s traditions. Though the official bill wasn’t included in the legislative procedure, the Socialists insisted that the draft law should be added to the agenda and examined as a matter of urgency.
Andrian Candu said the given bill is of a major interest, while the law has provisions that affect the whole society. So, this legislative initiative must be first consulted with civil society and subject to the whole parliamentary procedure. He thus refused to propose including the bill in the agenda.
A number of 64 MPs remained in the hall and the sitting was continued given that the quorum was present.
