The representatives of the Party of Socialists collected the 80,000 signatures needed to stage the referendum on the dismissal of Dorin Chirtoaca from the post of mayor of Chisinau, the leader of Socialists councilors in Chisinau Ion Ceban said in a press briefing on June 15. The Socialists plead for holding the local plebiscite simultaneously with the national consultative referendum that President Igor Dodon announced will be staged on September 24, IPN reports.

According to Ion Ceban, even if the number of signatures is sufficient, the collection process will continue until the July 10 deadline so that all the inhabitants of Chisinau who want could sign for the dismissal of the mayor. “The approval of the signatures will start on June 19. Later these will be remitted to court for verification and will be then transmitted to the Central Election Commission,” stated the councilor.

Ion Ceban expressed his optimism that the plebiscite will be organized and will be successful. “We should elect a new administration in Chisinau municipality,” he stated.

In another development, the councilor said the Party of Socialists requested deputy mayor Nistor Grozavu to convene a meeting of the Chisinau Municipal Council for June 20.
