Several dozen members and sympathizers of the Party of Socialists (PCRM) in the morning of July 22 picketed the head office of the National Agency for Energy Regulation (ANRE), protesting against the recent decision to increase the electricity and natural gas tariffs, IPN reports.

Socialist MP Ion Ceban said that after the stealing of billions of lei from Banca de Economii, appropriation of the airport, privatization of state property and theft of foreign grants, the people are now confronted with a new portion of fraud and mockery. Those who manage the ANRE and those who are to blame for the actions taken against the people must tender their resignations.

Socialist lawmaker Vasile Bolea said that three weeks ago, when the ANRE director presented a report in Parliament, this said that the rises will not exceed 8%, but the tariffs were ultimately increased by almost 40%. “Today Moldova’s population faces deeper poverty. We came to demand stopping the genocide. Stop the genocide of people!” he stated.

After the protest, the picketers went on a march to the Chisinau City Hall and then to the Government Building, demanding that the nominal compensations for socially deprived groups of people should be restored.
