A crowd of sympathizers and members of the Party of Socialists of the Republic of Moldova (PSRM) came together in front of the Government Building on February 10 to hamper the Cabinet meeting. Dozens of police officers formed cordons to prevent the protesters from entering the Building, IPN reports.
The leader of the PSRM Igor Dodon told the crowd that the current government is illegal and staging peaceful protests is the only solution for replacing the power. If nothing changes, the protesters will also block the next meetings of the Government and the Parliament sittings too. The crisis can be overcome only by holding early legislative elections.
Igor Dodon noted that the timeframe given earlier to the Government by the Civic Forum produced no results as the Supreme Council of Magistracy on February 9 decided to nominate Mihai Poalelungi for the presidency of the Supreme Court of Justice. “The oligarchic-mafiotic government continues to show disrespect for the people and democracy, the fact that a puppet of the oligarchic gang - Mihai Poalelungi – was nominated for the presidency of the Supreme Court of Justice being a proof of this,” he stated.
The protesters said that this Cabinet that was invested at midnight is illegal and its members should realize that they hold their posts illegally and receive salaries from the people’s money and should thus satisfy the people’s demands.
The Cabinet meeting set for 5pm was opened and the ministers are to examine over 20 draft decisions.
