The Socialist parliamentary group demands that a plenary meeting of the legislative body should be immediately summoned. The chairman of the Party of Socialists (PSRM) Igor Dodon told a news conference that the parliamentary session opened de facto on February 1, but a sitting of Parliament hasn’t been yet convened. The government is afraid that thousands of people will come to protest during the first sitting and does delays calling it, IPN reports.
“Today the parliamentary group of the PSRM, which is the largest one, demands that a Parliament sitting should be summoned and we suggest a series of subjects for the first meeting. We prepared the draft legislative initiatives that derive from the demands of the Civic Forum,” stated the Socialists’ leader.
Thus, the Socialists will suggest that the heads of the Prosecutor General’s Office, the National Anticorruption Center, the Security and Information Service, the Broadcasting Coordination Council, the National Integrity Commission and the National Bank of Moldova should be dismissed. They will also propose examining the packages of laws concerning the banking system, the judiciary, the mass media and other sectors and constituting a commission of inquiry to deal with the case of the political prisoners of the Petrenko group.
The election of the head of state is another issue that will be raised. Igor Dodon said that Parliament is to initiate the procedure for electing the next President by March 22. “We plead for the election of the President by the people. We will not vote for candidates proposed for the presidency in Parliament,” he stated.
He also said that the PSRM maintains its position that results can be achieved only by consistent peaceful protests. He noted that they will no way call on the people to stage a revolution and to occupy the state buildings by force.
