The parliamentary group of the Party of Socialists does not support the candidate for Prime Minister Ion Sturza and insists on holding early parliamentary elections, the party’s leader Igor Dodon wrote on his Facebook page, IPN reports.

“Ion Sturza is the Prime Minister of 1999 of whom most of the people of Moldova have sad recollections. While Sturza headed the Government, corruption became deep-rooted in our country and the salaries hadn’t been paid for many months. In some of the areas, the salaries and pensions were paid in galoshes and flour. Then Moldova became very poor and the mass exodus started. The drama of our people became worse,” wrote the politician.

Igor Dodon wrote that Sturza has no scruples and regrets and no limits if he accepted again to become Premier in a country that he ruined at the end of the 1990s. The goals of those who are in power have nothing to do with the country’s interests. They want to hide the thefts and to save themselves and to also give the impression that they renewed their ranks, but actually with an old and discredited figure.

“We, the Socialists, will vote no one. We want only early elections and the election of the head of state by direct vote. Timofti’s decision to field Sturza for premiership brings us closer to early elections,” said Igor Dodon.

The Democratic Party announced that it will not have discussions with the candidate for Prime Minister. The MPs who left the Party of Communists also do not intend to vote Ion Sturza. The group of MPs led by Iurie Leanca will have discussions with Ion Sturza if it’s asked to. The Lib-Dems and Liberals haven’t made public their positions.
