Soldier gets a year and a half for desertion

A conscript soldier from Balti was sentenced to one year and a half in jail for desertion, Info-Prim Neo reports. According to the Chisinau Military Prosecutor’s Office, the 20-year-old soldier, who was receiving treatment at the Municipal Clinical Hospital based in Chisinau, went away several days after he was hospitalized. During about three months and a half, the young man had stayed at the place of a friend of his in Briceni district, avoiding doing the military service. The soldier earlier deserted the armed forces for two days, but admitted his guilt and the charges were dropped. The sentence can be appealed to a higher court.
