The Cabinet approved a decision that is designed to eliminate the impediments faced when registering motor vehicles with Transnistrian license numbers. Thus, the cars could be cleared without presenting the documents based on which they were introduced into Moldova in the original. The applicant will only have to fill out the customs declaration and an own responsibility statement to confirm that the presented information is true, IPN reports.

Earlier, it was decided that the drivers who owned units of transport with license plates issued in the administrative-territorial units from the left side of the Nistru and in Bender municipality until November 1, 2016 can register them regardless of their length of life. The drivers complained yet about the experienced difficulties as a part of the documents required by the authorities are no longer kept in archives in Transnistria. The identified solution was to fill out the customs declaration and an own responsibility statement to confirm the accuracy of the presented information.

According to licensed insurers working in Moldova, the owners of units of transport with Transnistrian license plates in 2016 purchased about 16,000 civil auto liability insurance policies. This shows that approximately 16,000 motor vehicles travel constantly on the right side of the Nistru. Most of these travel based on powers of attorney issued by Transnistrian bodies.

It should be noted that the motor vehicles with Transnistrian license places will be unable to use the public roads as of April 1, 2017 if the owners of these hold a driver’s license issued by the Moldovan authorities and live on the right side of the Nistru. During three months, between January 1 and April 1, the owners of motor vehicles registered abroad or on the left side of the Nistru, regardless of their length of life, can register them with the Moldovan authorities by paying a tax of 30% of the rate set for 2016.
