Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu requested that the penalties for road traffic violations should be made harsher. He made the request in Tuesday’s Parliament sitting following the grave road accident on the Viaduct in Chisinau as a result of which a young woman remained without both of her legs, IPN reports.

“This is a sad event that teaches us an emotional and powerful life lesson. Last week, we all learned about a terrible accident that occurred on the Viaduct. A young woman was seriously struck by a speeding car. I read the message full of hope of this young woman who was close to death. It was an emotive message about the solidarity of the ordinary people, passersby or witnesses to the accident, who immediately gave her first aid, the specialized services and doctors who did the impossible and saved her life. Without legs now, Marcela starts a new life and needs our assistance,” Igor Grosu stated at the beginning of the sitting.

He asked to urgently toughen up the penalties for speeding drivers, noting that there is nothing more important than life and those to blame should be punished.

The accident happened on February 5. The young woman was travelling as a passenger in a car that collided with another vehicle. The two drivers stopped and the girl went to take the warning triangle out of the trunk. At that moment, she was struck by another car. She had both of her legs amputated. The girl’s family sought help from the citizens as the rehabilitation is extremely costly.
