A special commission consisting of representatives of the Ministry of Defense, the Military Prosecutor’s Office, nongovernmental organizations and academic circles will examine the military discipline in all the garrisons of the National Army. The announcement was made by Minister of Defense VitalieMarinuta in a press briefing on December 4, Info-PrimNeo reports. Such a decision was taken after erroneous data about the violation of discipline while doing the military service appeared in the media. “Even if some of the media outlets present the state of affairs from a different angle, statistics show that we adopted a correct attitude and we will maintain it. Compared with 2011, the number of offenses committed in the National Army fell by 32%,” said the minister. He also said that in the second half of January, this commission will present its conclusions and findings. It will also formulate recommendations and proposals for improving the situation. According to VitalieMarinuta, 30 cases of violation of discipline have been recorded this year so far. “The situation is not alarming as some media organizations assert. The number of violations has decreased,” stated the minister. As to the deaths in the armed forces, the minister said that one case of death was reported in2009, one case in 2010, three cases in 2011, and no case this year.
