Moldova’s Under-21 national football team recorded a 2-2 draw with Georgia in a friendly match in Orhei on August 10.
The guests opened the score on 32 minutes through Shekiladze. The Moldovans leveled in the second half after Gheorghe Andronic converted a penalty kick. The Caucasian side netted once again, this time through Kobalia. However, on the 6th minute of additional time, the referee awarded Moldova another penalty to the dismay of the Georgians. Constantin Mandricenco scored the equalizer.
The Georgian coach, Otava Gobelia, blasted the referee after the match. “Such refereeing won’t benefit your footballers. You won’t find such tolerance in Europe”, he said.
“I saw a penalty there and I think there are no reasons for anyone to be angry. We worked till the last minute. We wanted a good result”, replied Sergiu Chirilov, the Moldovan coach.
On September 1, the Moldovan youth side will begin the qualifying campaign for the European Championship in 2013 with a match against Portugal.
