Two groups administering a number of currency exchange facilities in the municipality of Chisinau are suspected of trying to destabilize the situation on the domestic currency market. “The given groups made a prior agreement to manipulate the exchange rate,” Marcel Tabarcea, the deputy head of the Interior Ministry’s Division for the Prevention and Combating of Cybernetic, Information and Translational Offences, told a news conference on Tuesday, March 17.
One of the most often violations discovered by the police is the refusal of currency exchange facilities’ employees to sell the currency asked by the clients under the pretext that they do not have that currency or there is a shortage of it, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Marcel Tabarcea said that they are investigating the identified wrongdoings and will inform the National Bank of Moldova about them. If it is established that the regulations concerning the activity of currency exchange facilities were infringed, the facilities could remain without license. Eighteen cases of exchange rate manipulation are now being investigated.
