The National Army honored the tricolor on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of its institution as the state flag of Moldova. In the event, attended by servicemen and ministers, Minister of Defense Viorel Cibotaru said that the tricolor is a symbol of Moldova’s unity and sovereignty. The tricolor reminds every military person that they must defend the unity and sovereignty of the country and it reminds that not few people sacrificed their lives for the Motherland, for Honor and for the Tricolor, IPN reports.
Attending the event, Prime Minister Chiril Gaburici said the tricolor makes us look in the same direction, think the same way and have patriotism in the hearts. “Given the current geopolitical situation, the tricolor should now unite us more and we should carry this symbol with honor,” he stated.
A religious ceremony was held before the flag was raised, with the tricolor being blessed.
The tricolor became the state flag of Moldova in 1990. In 2010 it was decided that the State Flag Day will be celebrated each year on April 27.
