The number of persons who can benefit from state-guaranteed legal aid will be increased. A relevant legislative proposal was given a first reading by Parliament, IPN reports.
Among the beneficiaries of free legal aid will be citizens with incomes lower than the monthly salary in the real sector, which is now of 3,500 lei. Currently, the state guaranteed legal aid is intended for persons with incomes lower than the minimum subsistence level that in the second half of last year was 2,183 lei.
A proposed amendment says that the persons with severe and moderate disabilities, regardless of the size of their incomes, can benefit from state-guaranteed legal aid.
According to the National Council for State-Guaranteed Legal Aid, over 47,000 persons benefitted from state-guaranteed legal aid last year. A sum of 73.522,7 million lei was allocated from the state budget for remunerating lawyers.
The bill is to be given a final reading.
